What is the EN529:2005 Standard for Respiratory Protective Devices?

Respiratory Protective Equipment is a technical and one of the most confusing areas of PPE. Although not heavily publicised, the EN529:2005  Standard of the European Committee, which supersedes BS4275:1997, addresses recommendations for selection, use, care and maintenance of Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE).

A very comprehensive document, covering classification, with a full breakdown of the related normative EN standards for different equipment, facepieces, filters, compressed air supply, training and supervision, it provides all the essential information needed for a complete RPE programme.

In addition, areas such as manufacturers responsibilities, employees responsibilities, assessing minimum protection factor, suitability for the work environment, and suitability for the wearer, this standard is a very valuable tool for any occupation health professional.  The full standard can be downloaded here.
